Common Questions About Our Aran Islands Walks
Everything you need to know about our guided experiences for seniors on Inis Mór
We design our routes specifically for seniors with plenty of rest stops built in. Most walks are leisurely—think 1 to 1.5 miles per hour—and we're happy to adjust the pace to match your group. Nobody gets left behind, and you'll have time to take in the views and chat with our guides.
Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are essential—the terrain can be uneven, especially around the cliff edges and near Dún Dúchathair fort. Bring layers since weather on the islands changes quickly, and waterproof jackets are always a good idea. We'll send you a full packing list when you book.
The cliff edge walk takes about 2.5 to 3 hours including rest breaks. The Dún Dúchathair fort exploration runs 2 to 2.5 hours, and our dry stone wall heritage walks are flexible—typically 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how much you want to explore.
Please tell us about any concerns when you book—we take this seriously. Some walks work better for different mobility levels, and we can suggest routes or modifications that suit you. We're experienced working with older adults and can advise on what's realistic for your fitness level.
These aren't just random walls—they're centuries of farming heritage built into the landscape. The dry stone walls create the field boundaries you see everywhere on Inis Mór, and the sheep folds tell you how islanders organized their land and livestock. Our guides explain the construction techniques and why the islanders built them this way, connecting you to real life on the islands.
You can visit independently, but having a guide makes a real difference. It's an Iron Age fort with layers of history that aren't obvious from looking at the stones alone. A guide explains the construction, its purpose, local legends, and the archaeology—plus we know the safest approaches and best rest spots along the way.
